March 27, 2019 : Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority received a delegation from ANASAP (Agence Nationale d’Assainissement et de Salubrité Publique) from Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This Congolese delegation was on a mission to learn from Rwanda's experience and best practices in terms of regulating sanitation services.
Speaking on behalf of RURA, Ag. Head of Energy, Water & Sanitation Department, Alexis Mutware said:" It's an honor to welcome you here and we look forward to developing continued relationships with ANASAP"
"Rwanda is always committed to promoting Sanitation sector as far as Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all) is concerned.", he added
Referring to the cleanliness of the City of Kigali, Josée Rashidy, the Director General of ANASAP and the head of visiting delegation commended RURA for its effective regulatory framework in the sanitation sector."
RURA has the responsibility to regulate sanitation services which include liquid waste collection and transportation, decentralized wastewater treatment systems, cleaning services, solid waste collection and transportation Services, hazardous waste management as well as Solid waste recycling.In sanitation sector, RURA is mandated to:
- enforce sector laws and develop regulations,
- issue licenses,
- perform audits and inspections to ensure compliance,
- monitor the quality of services provided
- advise service providers on service delivery,
- educate consumers and advise the Government in regards to sanitation related issues
