The total number of active mobile telephone subscriptions (90-days revenue generating subscribers) in Rwanda decreased by 1.3% from January to February of the year 2019. As a result, the mobile-cellular telephone subscriptions per 100 inhabitants decreased by 1.0% from 79.9% to 78.9%.
This decrease is attributed to the clean-up exercise for limiting the number of sim cards ownership where each licensee can’t have more than 3 sim cards per one ID or one sim card per passport.
Postpaid subscriptions increased from 66,946 at the end of January-2019 to 67,418 at the end of February-2019, and the prepaid subscriptions decreased from 9,595,647 at the end of January-2019 to 9,473,583 as of February-2019.
