Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) together with National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), and the Ministry of Local Government inaugurated a center for Independent Living and Assistive Technology for persons with disabilities in Kicukiro District.
Through the support of RURA, such ICT training centers have been established in all provinces of Rwanda with the aim of promoting ICT among persons with disabilities. On top of that, all these centers are operational.
RURA through its Universal Access and Service Division has provided ICT equipment to these Centers. The equipment worth around 200 million Rwandan Francs will facilitate persons with disabilities increase their ICT skills in terms of accessing technology-based services.
The equipment includes desktop computers, braille embossers, screenreaders, among others.
This initiative aims at making significant improvements in the lives of persons with disabilities, allowing them to enhance their social, cultural, political and economic integration in the Rwandan and global society.
Inauguration of this project comes at right time as National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) is preparing to celebrate International Day for Persons with Disabilities on 3 December, 2018.
