On 5th May 2022 - Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) received the parliamentary Committee on Government Assurance from the National Assembly of Zambia.
The Acting DG of RURA, Eng. Deo Muvunyi thanked the Zambian National Assembly MPs for the study tour and shared a general overview of the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority's mandate in ICT and other regulated sectors.
In his address to the Zambian MPs delegation, Eng. Deo Muvunyi said; “the mission that we have is to establish setup regulations. We use regulations and these are the regulatory tools that we use to achieve the mission that the government has established us for.
He also noted that After issuing regulations to all regulated sectors, RURA has to do follow-ups through regular inspections and ensure operators provide services that meet the standards set by the Regulatory Authority.
The Parliamentary Committee on Government Assurances from the National Assembly of Zambia applauded Rwanda's ICT development, especially the one laptop per child program that inspired their study visit to Rwanda.
“We are going to compile a report that we will hand over to the National Assembly of Zambia, in the hope of being debated by members of parliament from various parts of our country. It is very important and we are grateful that we can get such information,” said MP Komando.
The Zambian MPs delegation is in Rwanda on a study visit and the discussion with RURA was mainly focused on the role of RURA in the ICT and education sectors.
